Football: Germany's Schweinsteiger out of France friendly

BERLIN (AFP) - Germany football star Bastian Schweinsteiger has pulled out of Wednesday's friendly against France in Paris after taking a knock to his ankle in a Bundesliga match for Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old, Germany's vice-captain, suffered the injury during the second-half of Bayern's 3-0 win at Mainz 05 on Saturday, but still finished the 90 minutes. The win kept Bayern top of the German league table.

Schweinsteiger needs three days rest and has told Germany coach Joachim Loew he will not be adding to his 97 appearances for his country in Paris. He had also missed the 0-0 draw with Holland in Amsterdam last November.
