FANDI Ahmad has been confirmed as new coach of the LionsXII.

The Football Association of Singapore announced his appointment on Saturday evening, ending a two-month-long search triggered by V. Sundramoorthy's decision to leave for Negeri Sembilan.

Former national captain Fandi was selected from a field of over 70 applicants, following a series of interviews and written tests.

Fandi, 51, has a coaching resume which includes two S-League titles with Singapore Armed Forces FC (now known as Warriors FC), as well as leading national Under-23 side the Young Lions to two third-place finishes.

He left Malaysian Super League side Johor Darul Takzim in August, after managing only a third-place finish despite the club's big-spending ways.
