Football: Former Blackburn boss Steve Kean confirmed as Brunei DPMM coach

Brunei DPMM officials confirmed on Tuesday afternoon the appointment of former Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean as replacement for outgoing coach Vjeran Simunic.

The 46-year-old Scot had coached the former English Premier League side from 2010 to 2012, a spell which saw them relegated from the top-tier division.

He would be the first former EPL manager to coach in the Great Eastern-YEO'S S-League, with DPMM confirming yesterday their participation in the league through 2015.

The agreement, signed with the Football Association of Singapore on Tuesday afternoon, will take the Bandar Seri Begawan-based outfit's association with the league to a fifth season.

The club made their S-League bow in 2009 and promptly became the first foreign club to win silverware when they won the League Cup. They repeated their Cup triumph and finished second in the league last year, as Simunic was named Coach of the Year.
