Football: Crystal Palace midfielder Guedioura fractures ribs, punctures lung in collision

LONDON (AFP) - Crystal Palace's attacking midfielder Adlene Guedioura will be out for around six weeks after fracturing two ribs, the Premier League club revealed on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Algerian international sustained the injury in a collision with goalkeeper Boaz Myhill during Palace's 2-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and had to be carried from the pitch on a stretcher.

"It doesn't look good for him. He's fractured two ribs and it's damaged his lung as well," caretaker manager Keith Millen told local newspaper the Advertiser Sport.

"For cracked ribs, you're looking at around at least six weeks out."

The news means that Guedioura will miss the second leg of Algeria's home World Cup qualifying play-off against Burkina Faso on November 19, when the north African side must overturn a 3-2 deficit to qualify for next year's tournament in Brazil.
