Football: Copa del Rey winners Atletico Madrid, star striker Falcao arrive in Singapore

Hola, Singapore! At 5.30am this morning, Galactico slayers Atletico Madrid touched down at Changi Airport's Terminal on flight SQ67 from Barcelona.

The Spanish football club, who have sealed third place in La Liga with two matches to go, are in Singapore at the invitation of local billionaire Peter Lim for Wednesday's friendly against a Singapore Selection.

The Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Charity Cup takes place at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Concession tickets for this match are sold out, but other categories are still up for grabs.

Diego Simeone's team, featuring star striker Radamel Falcao, beat the Galacticos of Real Madrid 2-1 over the weekend to lift the Copa del Rey - the club's first victory over their city rivals in 14 years. Atletico also won the Europa League in 2010 and 2012.

Falcao, a Colombian international, is currently one of the hottest properties in world football. The clinical striker has scored 28 times in the Spanish league this season and has a ¤60 million (S$97 million) buy-out clause inserted in his contract. English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City are believed to be on his trail and he could make one of his last appearances in an Atletico shirt in Singapore.

Atletico will face a Singapore Selection coached by LionsXII tactician V. Sundramoorthy. The former national team forward has picked the core of the Lions squad and recalled ex-Singapore players Ahmad Latiff Khamarudin, Aleksandar Duric and Indra Sahdan, the striker who is known for scoring against Manchester United, Japan and Uruguay.Wang Meng Meng
