Football: Beckham to bring Major League Soccer club to Miami, debut likely in 2016

MIAMI (AFP) - British football legend David Beckham said Tuesday that he will buy a US team to play Major League Soccer and bring it to the city of Miami.

Beckham spoke to reporters alongside MLS commissioner Don Garber, who said Beckham and the league would work with the Florida city to build a world class stadium for the club.

"I want to create a team that is personal to me," said the former England, Manchester United and Real Madrid star midfielder. "I know the city is ready for soccer and I know we will be successful.

"I want to create a team that is personal to me. I've worked hard my whole career and I'll work hard for this city."

The proposed Miami team will likely make their MLS debut in 2016 the earliest, in a brand new purpose-built stadium.
