LONDON - Andre Villas-Boas has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager on Monday - less than 24 hours after his side slumped to their heaviest home defeat in 16 years.

Following Sunday's 0-5 loss to Liverpool at White Hart Lane, Spurs were five points below the Champions League positions in seventh place in the Premier League.

Just three weeks ago, they were humiliated 0-6 by Manchester City, heaping pressure on the Portuguese, who was into his second season at the London club.

Spurs had also suffered an embarrassing 0-3 defeat to West Ham earlier in the season.
