Singapore's national dragon boat team and Under Armour's South-east Asian exclusive distributor Triple Pte Ltd have signed a one-year sponsorship deal worth upwards of $70,000 on Wednesday morning at the Singapore Sports Institute.

The deal, which started in January and runs till the end of this year, will see the Republic's dragon boaters don the brand's apparel for June's SEA Games hosted in Singapore.

Singapore Dragon Boat Association's senior vice-president John McGrath said: "Dragon boating is truly a team sport whereby there is a strong tradition of competition but few heroes.

"It is an honour to receive support from one of the high-calibre sports brands in the world.

"Our relationship with (Triple Pte Ltd) is just starting and it is appreciated. This will help our team down a difficult road to success."

Triple Pte Ltd's chief marketing officer Adrian Chai added: "It is a real honour to create history together. We see tremendous potential in this team. We are keen to show our support to the team for their hard work as well as their will to succeed."

Discussions on an extension of the sponsorship will be held between both parties in the second half of the year but The Straits Times understand that there are no key performance indicators (KPIs) set by the sponsor.
