THE expected fiery encounter between the India and Pakistan Under-23 sides did not materialise, as a tame Pakistan lost the final of the inaugural Asian Cricket Council's Emerging Teams Cup by nine wickets at Kallang on Sunday.

On a placid pitch, they started off well to be 88-2 in the 28th over, but lost seven wickets for 19 runs in the next 11 overs.

A last-wicket stand of 52 between Usman Qadir (33) and Ehsan Adil (20 not out) took them to 159 (47 overs), but that was never going to be adequate against an India side who boasted several Indian Premier League and first-class players.

India lost their star batsman Unmukt Chand (15) early, but faced little trouble thereafter, as Lokesh Rahul (93 not out) and Manpreet Juneja (51 not out) took them to victory (160-1) in the 34th over.
