Commonwealth Games: 70 Singapore athletes picked from six sports by selection panel

SOME 70 Team Singapore athletes have made the first cut to July's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, after a Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) selection panel - which included Deputy Prime Minister and SNOC president Teo Chee Hean - met on Tuesday.

The athletes were from six different sports: Athletics, badminton, gymnastics, shooting, swimming and table tennis.

Another four sports - boxing, wrestling, cycling and judo - have also submitted nominations but were told to come back with more results by March 14. The panel will meet again on April 4 to decide on the appeals.

Singapore was represented by 65 athletes at the previous Commonwealth Games edition in New Delhi in 2010, and came home with 11 golds, 11 silvers and nine bronzes.
