Chelsea manager Benitez tight-lipped on Suarez bite ban

BASEL, Switzerland (AFP) - Rafael Benitez refused to be drawn on the 10-game ban imposed on Liverpool striker Luis Suarez on Wednesday for biting the Chelsea manager's Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Suarez was handed the heavy suspension by the Football Association in response to an incident during Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield in the Premier League in which the Uruguayan appeared to sink his teeth into Ivanovic's arm.

Benitez refused to discuss the incident at the time and he was similarly reluctant to give an opinion on what had happened when he was asked to comment on Thursday.

"We know that was wrong and after, the decision it is not something we can say too much (about)," he said.

Asked whether Ivanovic had suffered any ill-effects from the incident, Benitez replied: "He's fine." The Spaniard was speaking prior to his side's Europa League semi-final first-leg match against Swiss side FC Basel on Thursday.

Suarez has until 1100GMT on Friday to decide whether or not to appeal against his suspension for violent conduct.
