SINGAPORE - National bodybuilder Joan Liew won gold at the inaugural Arnold Classic Asia Multi-Sport Festival in Hong Kong last Saturday (Aug 20).

The festival is the Asian leg of the Arnold Classic Worldwide series, which is tied to former bodybuilding champion and movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Liew had also come out tops at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio in 2014.

The 40-year-old's triumph in the women's physique category was just one of four medals that Singapore's bodybuilders won at this year's meet, which took place from Aug 19-21. The Republic also bagged a silver medal in the men's junior bodybuilding category through Benjamin Broughton.

In the women's masters bikini fitness category, Ziela Eriksen and Shontel Chow were second and third respectively.

The quartet were part of eight Singaporean athletes present at the multi-sport meet, which featured a total of 23 sports including judo, arm-wrestling and fencing.

Over 200 athletes from more than 30 countries participated in the festival.
