Basketball: Slingers and Yao Ming-owned Shanghai Sharks to clash at Merlion Cup

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Slingers are set to face Yao Ming-owned Shanghai Sharks, having been drawn in the same group as the Chinese side in next month's Merlion Cup.

The Slingers will take on the Sharks in the group stage of the Cup on Sept 23 after taking on Taiwan's Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor in the tournament opener.

The Merlion Cup, making a return after a 20-year hiatus, will take place from Sept 21-25 at the Singapore Sports Hub's OCBC Arena.

The six-team tournament also features the Malaysia Dragons, Seoul Samsung Thunders, and Mighty Sports from the Philippines in Group B.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

Tickets will be available from August 9. Some 500 concession tickets are available each match day at $10 for local students and senior citizens.

Standard tickets cost $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends while a season pass is available at $75 for all five days. Courtside tickets are also on sale for $50 on weekdays and $60 on weekends.
