SINGAPORE - The national men's and women's basketball teams will be facing off in friendly matches this Sunday (Aug 7).
The game will be held at 1pm at the Singapore Basketball Centre and it is open to the public.
It is part of an event, the ICBC Charity Cup, to celebrate warm bilateral ties between Singapore and China.
The friendly competition, starting at 10am, will pit a Singapore team against a Chinese team.
Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and the Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) will represent Singapore while ICBC and a team from the Chinese embassy in Singapore will represent China.
Anthony Tan, deputy chief executive officer of SPH, said: "The ICBC Charity Cup is a testament to the warm friendship between Singapore and China, which goes beyond economic and trade cooperation to include sporting and cultural collaboration. I welcome all basketball enthusiasts to join us at the event this coming Sunday."
The public can also take part in a three-point and a skills challenge at the event.
Gan Thiam Poh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ang Mo Kio GRC, who is also vice-president of BAS, and Tin Pei Ling, MP for MacPherson SMC, will be present to support the event.
Ong Swee Teck, honorary secretary of BAS, said: "BAS is pleased to support this charity tournament. The Merlion Cup will return this September after a 20-year hiatus and we look forward to more corporate sponsorship."
