Badminton: World No. 1 Saina Nehwal withdraws from OUE S'pore Open

Newly-crowned world No. 1 Saina Nehwal will not be competing at the OUE Singapore Open this week, after announcing her withdrawal on Monday.

The Indian, who won the Indian Open last month and was a finalist at this year's All-England Open, was the biggest star among the list of withdrawals.

Indonesia's world No. 8 Tommy Sugiarto will also not be featuring. He is joined by Japan world No. 13 Sho Sasaki and Thailand's world No. 13 mixed doubles pair Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam.

Other withdrawals in the main draw include Canada's Michelle Li and India's P.V. Sindhu in the women's singles event.
