Badminton: Singapore win final Thomas and Uber Cup group games

Singapore's badminton contingent ended their 2014 Thomas and Uber Cup campaign on a happy note as both teams secured a win in their final group games on Wednesday.

The Republic's male shuttlers beat Nigeria 5-0 to finish third behind Indonesia and Thailand in Group A.

The women's team also finished third behind Korea and Indonesia in Group X after a 5-0 victory over Australia at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi, India.

In the Thomas Cup, Derek Wong defeated Jinkan Bulus 21-14, 21-8 while Huang Chao dispatched Enejoh Abah 21-10, 21-19 and Sean Lee triumphed over Victor Makanju 21-18, 21-12.

The doubles' pairing of Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Terry Hee beat Abah and Makanju 21-7, 21-11, while Huang and Lee paired up to see off Bulus and Ola Fagbemi 21-10, 21-12.

In the Uber Cup, Liang Xiaoyu led the way for Singapore by beating Verdet Kessler 21-10, 21-15, while team-mates Chen Jiayuan and Fu Mingtian also won, defeating Tara Pilven 21-11 and 21-15, and Joy Lai 21-15, 21-14 respectively.

In doubles, Yao Lei and Shinta Mulia Sari recorded a 21-18, 21-12 win over Renuga Veeran and Tang He Tian, while Vanessa Neo and Tan Wei Han saw off Gronya Somerville and Jacqueline Guan 21-7, 21-17.
