Badminton: Singapore come back from 0-2 down to beat Spain 3-2 at Sudirman Cup

SINGAPORE'S badminton team came back from 0-2 down to win 3-2 against Spain in their opening match of the biennial Sudirman Cup held in Dongguan, China.

After Derek Wong lost the men's singles 18-21, 11-21 to Pablo Abian and Yeo Jia Min lost the women's singles 9-21, 17-21 to world No. 3 Carolina Marin, Singapore were looking at the prospect of a heavy defeat.

However, the men's doubles pair of Terry Hee and Hendra Wijaya began the fightback by beating Abian and Luis Enrique Penalver 21-15, 21-11.

The women's doubles pair of Elaine Chua and Tan Wei Han then beat Clara Azurmendi and Marin 21-15, 23-21 to level the tie at 2-2.

The mixed doubles pair of Shinta Mulia Sari and Chayut Triyachart then beat Beatriz Corrales and Ernesto Velazquez 21-12, 21-18 to finish the comeback and seal a 3-2 win for Singapore.
