Badminton: Local male singles shuttlers crash out of Singapore Open

It was a day to forget for the local male shuttlers at the Li-Ning Singapore Open qualifiers on Tuesday.

The Republic's top player Derek Wong fell 21-18, 15-21, 15-21 to Malaysian Zulfadli Zulkiffli.

Singapore's other male hopes Ashton Chen and Robin Gonansa also crashed out, going down to South Korean Lee Dong Keun (20-22, 21-17, 21-17) and Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long (19-21, 15-21) respectively.

That means the hosts have no more male representation in the singles' competition.

But there was more joy for the local women, as Xing Aiying joined Gu Juan in the main draw after beating Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi 20-22, 21-13, 21-11.
