Badminton: Liang Xiaoyu captures women's singles at Malaysia International Challenge

ALOR SETAR (Kedah) - Singapore shuttler Liang Xiaoyu defeated Indonesia's Dinar Dyah Ayustine 21-11, 21-13 to win the women's singles title at the Maybank Malaysia International Challenge Championships yesterday.

The fourth seed dropped just one game en route to victory at the fourth-tier, US$15,000 (S$21,350) badminton tournament.

Last month, Liang recorded a notable victory at the Thailand Open, upsetting top seed and former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 22-20, 13-21, 21-17 in the semi-finals.

However, she was unable to reproduce that sparkling form in the final, losing 11-21, 14-21 to South Korean Sung Ji Hyun.
