National sprinter Shanti Pereira clocked 24.76sec in Saturday's women's 200m semi-final at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine.

The 16-year-old fifth out of seven runners. She did not qualify for the final.

While her latest timing does not improve on the national record of 24.54 which she shares with Prema Govindan, who set it in 1984, it concludes a remarkable outing for the Republic Polytechnic student at the biennial meet.

Shanti had set the 100m earlier during the meet with a 11.89 effort, re-writing Amanda Choo's 12.01 set in 2010.
