Athletics: Russia accepts suspension from international competitions without a hearing

MONACO (AFP) - Russia has accepted its full suspension from international athletics without a hearing, the IAAF said on Thursday.

The world body had previously provisionally suspended Russia over widespread use of banned substances in what a World Anti-Doping Agency report said was "state-sponsored" doping.

Russia's acceptance of the ban was formalised at an International Association of Athletics Federations council meeting in Monaco.

The Russians "confirmed they understood that the council would only accept their reinstatement as an IAAF member following the recommendation of the IAAF inspection team who will decide if the verification criteria have been fulfilled", said an IAAF statement.
