Singapore's 400m sprinter Kenneth Khoo was voted captain of the Singapore track and field contingent by his national team-mates at the 2015 SEA Games on Monday night.

He will lead a 74-strong contingent at next month's SEA Games, where Singapore Athletics president Tang Weng Fei has stated earlier that he hopes the squad can better their medal haul at the previous edition. In 2013, athletics bagged two golds, three silvers and three bronzes.

Khoo, who made his SEA Games debut at the 2003 edition, said was honoured to be elected by his team-mates, and called on them to do the nation proud on home soil next month.

Said the 33-year-old: "I've learnt a lot since 2003, I've encountered the struggles that some of them may be facing now, and I want them to know my door is always open. Let's use this as a launchpad for athletics. It's the start of an amazing journey."
