Athletics: Isinbayeva gives birth to daughter

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russian double Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva has given birth to her first child, the Russian athletics federation said on Sunday.

The 32-year-old gave birth to a daughter, and both are "feeling well", a statement on the federation's website said.

Isinbayeva said in May that she was planning to return to training as soon as possible ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Her coach Yevgeny Trofimov told Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper that she is currently in Monaco, but will return to her home city of Volgograd in September.

Isinbayeva stirred controversy last year when she announced she wanted to live in Monaco and slammed her "decayed" and "penniless" home base in southern Russia.
