Asian Tour golf celebrates 10th season with 10-year vision

The Asian Tour on Friday marked the start of its 10th season with a 10-year vision for Asian golf.

A commemorative logo, which symbolises "10 years of excellence" and the sanctioning body's official tagline, "The Players' Tour", was also unveiled at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

As part of its 10-year vision, the Tour is aiming to offer over US$100 million (S$123 million) a year through a season of about 39 events which Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han said will "herald a new and exciting chapter" for professional golf in the continent.

It also hopes to be represented by more than 10 members at the next Olympics in 2016, and produce one medallist by the 2020 edition.

The Asian Tour was launched in 2004 and is structured similarly to the PGA Tour and European Tour. The 2013 season kicks off next week with the Zaykabar Myanmar Open.
