Asian Games: Two S'pore athletes withdraw

Two Singapore athletes will miss the Incheon Asian Games owing to injury, said a Team Singapore statement.

Shooter Hoong Shi Xiang has pulled out of the men's 10m air pistol and men's 50m free pistol events at the Asian Games.

The 22-year-old had his infected appendix and the surrounding infected tissues removed on Monday at Gachon University Gil Hospital in Incheon.

He is recovering well under the care of the hospital as well as Team Singapore's chief medical officer Lim Yii Hong. His mother has arrived to look after him and will accompany him home on Saturday.

Meanwhile, judoka Ang Xuan Yi has withdrawn from the women's under-57kg category event as she suffered a serious ankle sprain during training, completely tearing the ligament causing instability of the joint. The 25-year-old, a bronze medallist in the 2011 SEA Games, will not be travelling to Incheon.
