SINGAPORE - Tickets to the Asean Para Games (APG) opening ceremony will go on sale to the public on Friday (Oct 23).

They will be priced at $20 (before concession and group discounts) for the Dec 3 event held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, which will be reconfigured to host about 6,000 spectators.

A total of about 2,000 tickets have been made available to the public, with 500 reserved for priority sales that begins today (Oct 20) for those who had registered their interest on the APG's official website.

The 90-min show will feature approximately 174 volunteers, 120 motivators, 454 students and 661 performers.

For the first time in Singapore broadcasting, there will be 'live' sign language interpretation and live captioning during the entire segment.

There will be five acts with formal aspects like the oath taking and torch relay woven into the narrative. The Republic's para-athletes like shooter Aishah Samad and swimmers Theresa Goh and Yip Pin Xiu will also be involved in the opening ceremony.

Said the show's creative and music director Philip Tan: "Working with incredibly talent people of all abilities has been instrumental in putting together an extraordinary opening ceremony worthy of such an important sporting event."

The Dec 3-9 APG, held in Singapore for the first time, will see 3,000 athletes and officials from 11 participating countries compete across 15 sports.

It is the biggest APG, which began in 2001 with two sports and 235 athletes, in Games history and comes six months after Singapore hosted the 28th SEA Games in June.

Said Lim Teck Yin, chairman of the Singapore Asean Para Games organising committee: "The 8th APG is set to be the most inclusive sporting event ever held in Singapore. The opening ceremony is no exception.

"Just as how our Team Singapore athletes competing in the Games exemplify the spirit of courage and determination, we hope that the community at large too, will be inspired to celebrate the triumph of the human spirit and live better through sports."

Tickets can be purchased online at www.sportshubtix.sg, the ticketing hotline (6333-5000), SingPost outlets and the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
