SINGAPORE - The Singapore Asean Para Games Organising Committee (Sapgoc) has opened the official 8th Asean Para Games (APG) merchandise store along the walkways of Orchard Road, just outside Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.
The pop-up store, which opened on Friday, will operate from 11am to 10pm daily until Dec 13. It will feature limited-edition APG merchandise such as jerseys, hats, towels as well as the plush toys of Games mascot Nila, which was a fan favourite during the 28th SEA Games hosted in Singapore in June.
Mr Kerk Kim Por, deputy chairman of Sapgoc, said: "This year has been a monumental year for sport in Singapore, and after the success of the 28th SEA Games, we're now less than a month to the first ever APG in Singapore.
"It's (the merchandise store) about creating that visibility and awareness on para-sports, right in the heart of the shopping district. We hope that Singaporeans will take the chance to stop by the store and purchase a souvenir of the Games. Hopefully, they will be able to develop an appreciation for para-sports as well," he added.
The store will not only be used to create awareness of the upcoming Games happening in Singapore from Dec 3 to 9, but it will also help to give back to the community, with 10 per cent of all proceeds going to social causes like SportCares and other Voluntary Welfare Organisations under The Care and Share Movement, which is a national fund-raising and volunteerism movement.
Care and Share will also match every dollar raised through the sale of merchandise and pledge it to improving the social service sector and supporting social services so as to meet the rising needs of Singaporeans.
Apart from the store located in Orchard, official merchandise of the Games can also be purchased at the various APG roadshows happening at Sengkang Sport Recreation Centre (Nov 7), Pasir Ris Sport Recreation Centre (Nov 8)and at the One Team Singapore Rally located at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza (Nov 14).
