A record sum of $936,000 was handed out to the latest batch of Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship holders on Monday.

Some 320 youngsters from 138 local schools received the accolade during a scholarship ceremony at the Max Atria in Singapore Expo.

The amount was an increase from the $746,000 given out last year. The students each received between $1,000 and $10,000.

Gracing the event were Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also the president of the Singapore National Olympic Council, and Olympic bronze medallist shooter Danka Bartekova of Slovakia.

The recipients, who were aged between eight and 27, included national badminton player Derek Wong, rising football talent Adam Swandi and sprinter Gary Yeo.
