WP May Day message: Do more to ease cost of living and raise wages

The Workers' Party (WP) is asking for more help to ease the rising cost of living for workers and increase their wages in its Labour Day message on Tuesday.

It also urged the Government to help small and medium-sized enterprises and workers through economic restructuring, and recounted its MPs' record in speaking up on workers' issues such as ensuring companies pay them fairly and preventing discrimination against Singaporeans in hiring and promotion.

It said: "The Workers' Party has noted that in Budget 2013, the Government has responded more positively to our calls and the needs of Singaporean workers...More must still be done to ease the burden of the rising cost of living and to increase the wages of our workers."

The WP also called on employers to make full use of this year's Budget measures to upgrade workers' skills, among other things. It pledged to continue to speak up for Singaporeans.
