Worker dies in airport worksite accident

An accident at Changi Airport on Saturday afternoon has left one worker dead and two hurt.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the three men met with the mishap at a work area near a runway.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Manpower said the three workers were using wrenches to detach a connected drill pipe when the pipe suddenly spun. The wrenches swung and struck the three workers.

The three workers were conveyed to the hospital. One of the workers, a Bangladeshi, subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

Of the remaining two workers, both Indian nationals, one remains warded with minor injuries while the other has been discharged.

Police has classified the case as an industrial accident, and investigations are ongoing.

A spokesman for the Changi Airport Group confirmed the accident and said the group and the contractor are "assisting the authorities in their investigations".
