Woman jailed for hitting ex-boss with plastic bowl

A woman was jailed for five days yesterday for using a plastic bowl to hit her former employer, who suffered a cut on her forehead.

Tan Bee Ling, 44, admitted to causing hurt to Madam Chiew Hiong Hiong, 45, a Malaysian, in Syed Alwi Road last year.

Tan was formerly working for Madam Chiew and her husband, Mr Goh Boon Leong, 42.

She had a dispute with Madam Chiew, and had ended her employment on bad terms some time last November.

On Dec 14 at 1.23am, she and her friends were at Mr Goh's coffee shop, Shan Ding Restaurant, after a drinking session.

At that time, Madam Chiew was cleaning the plates and bowls.

Tan suddenly rushed towards her and hit her twice on the head with a plastic bowl that was on a tray nearby. Madam Chiew used her right arm to protect herself.

Tan started scolding the victim, who was bleeding profusely.

Tan admitted she hit the victim with the plastic bowl as she thought the victim was staring at her and Tan could not control her temper.

The victim suffered a 2cm-long cut over her right forehead and tenderness over the right forearm. She was given five days' medical leave.

Tan could have been jailed for up to two years, fined up to $5,000 for causing hurt, or both.
