Woman investigated by police for making a false report about abduction

A 30-year-old woman is being investigated by the Singapore Police Force for making a false report.

On the evening on Jan 27, she lodged a report at a foreign embassy in Singapore. She claimed to have been knocked unconscious and abducted in Yio Chu Kang earlier that day.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive inquiries and interviews, before confirming that the woman had made a false report.

Subjects who are convicted for giving any information which they know to be false to a public servant can be jailed up to one year and/or fined up to $5,000.

The statement added that such false reports waste police resources that could have been used in more urgent cases.
