Woman arrested for series of car rental scams

SINGAPORE - A 51-year-old woman has been arrested for suspected involvement in a series of car rental scams, police said on Friday (March 24).

Police received several reports between July and September 2016 from victims who had been cheated by a woman who had offered car rentals at discounted rates.

The woman subsequently became uncontactable after payment was made by the victims.

Officers from Tanglin Division conducted extensive investigations and managed to establish the identity of the suspect.

She was arrested along Lengkok Bahru on Friday. Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

Anyone found guilty of cheating may be jailed for up to 10 years, and will also have to pay a fine.
