Promoting active ageing

The Teck Ghee Active Ageing Committee is partnering the Institute of Technical Education College Central and Nanyang Polytechnic in organising its annual active ageing night today. The dinner marks the fifth anniversary of the Teck Ghee Wellness Programme.

During the event, a mobile application that allows residents to check on their eligibility for elderly subsidies will be launched.

Historic China-Taiwan talks today

Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping meet today in Singapore for landmark talks.

The summit will be the first top-level meeting between the two sides since they split at the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949.

Mr Ma has said the discussion will not lead to any "secret deals or promises" and the two will focus on a way to create a mechanism for regular talks between leaders across the strait.

Crucial Myanmar election tomorrow

Myanmar goes to the polls tomorrow in a general election many see as an important step to its transition from an isolated military dictatorship to a more open society, seeking to attract foreign investment and tourists. The party of pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, the National League for Democracy, is eyeing a big win in its first general election since 1990.
