Second-quarter job figures

The Ministry of Manpower will release second-quarter employment statistics today.

The report will look at employment and unemployment statistics of various industries including manufacturing, services and construction. Figures for the first three months showed that employment had contracted in every sector, signalling that segments of the economy may be relying less on labour or not expanding fast enough to need more workers.

Cameron may comment on 1MDB crisis

When Mr David Cameron swings by Malaysia today to seal trade deals and push for greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism, he will come under pressure to speak up on the growing graft scandal at state investment fund 1MDB that has embroiled his host, Prime Minister Najib Razak. The British Prime Minister had told the press "nothing is off the table" ahead of the final stop on his four-nation tour of South-east Asia.

NOL releases Q2 results today

Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) is releasing its second-quarter financial statements today. The results will be keenly watched following recent media speculation that Temasek Holdings had put up the company for sale.

Temasek owns about 67 per cent of loss- making NOL, which reported a narrowing of its net loss to US$11 million (S$15 million) in the first quarter, down from US$98 million in the same period last year.
