$2.15 billion lottery

A winner may finally be announced this morning for the largest-ever lottery jackpot in the US, amid a frenzied rush to buy tickets for the once-in-a-lifetime draw. The top prize in the Powerball lottery has snowballed to US$1.5 billion (S$2.15 billion) due to the record ticket sales. The odds of winning are one in 292 million - so remote that you are 246 times more likely to be hit by lightning, according to The New York Times.

Safra Punggol details to be announced

Details of the facilities, tenants and offerings at the new Safra Punggol will be revealed today. The new waterfront club, which is nearing completion, will serve more than 80,000 national servicemen and their families living in the north-east of Singapore.

Release of key data on US economy

Investors will be paying close attention to the US today, with key data to be released of where the economy is headed. Early this morning the US Federal Reserve would have released the Beige Book, a report on economic conditions, which would give key insights on the path of the economic recovery in the US. Later tonight, the US initial jobs claims report will also be out, with investors hoping that more good news will help settle rattled markets.
