Third S'pore-China project

Singapore and China will be collaborating on their third government-led project in China's south-western Chongqing city to boost its less-developed western regions, following the successes of the Suzhou Industrial Park and the Tianjin Eco-city which began in 1994 and 2008 respectively.

SIA takeover bid for Tigerair

Singapore Airlines has made a $453 million takeover bid for budget carrier Tigerair. It plans to delist and privatise the loss-making carrier but said no jobs would be cut. SIA, which owns 55.8 per cent of Tigerair, is offering stakeholders 41 cents a share. Tigerair shares closed at 31 cents on Thursday.

NLD expected to do well in Myanmar polls

Pundits expect Myanmar's National League for Democracy to emerge the single largest party in the Ayeyarwady delta in tomorrow's election. If the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party does not hold on to some seats in the delta, where it is fielding strong candidates, several of its top figures may be buried in a political Waterloo.

Malaysian police have questioned Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for potential criminal defamation after he accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of bribing ruling Umno officials to stay in power at an anti-government rally. No sitting or former Malaysian prime minister has ever been subject to police questioning.
