Changi's Jewel to shine in 2019

Changi Airport's lifestyle and retail hub Jewel is set to pull in visitors when it opens in 2019. The 10-storey complex - a joint venture between Changi Airport Group and CapitaLand Mall Asia - will include one of the largest indoor collections of plants in Singapore, a 23m-high suspended bridge, other leisure activities as well as a hotel.

NEL extension to open in 2023

The 1.6km North-East Line extension will open in 2023 instead of 2030. The Land Transport Authority said this was to support developments in Punggol North and connect the mixed-used areas by rail. More than 7,000 Housing Board flats are expected to be ready in the area by 2021.

Notre-Dame man loyal to ISIS

The man who attacked a police trio outside Paris' Notre-Dame Cathedral pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group in a video found at his apartment. The 40-year-old was shot by police after he lunged at an officer in a square full of tourists with a hammer, shouting: "This is for Syria."

South Korea has suspended further deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (Thaad) - the controversial US missile defence system - until an environmental assessment ordered by President Moon Jae In has been completed.

New rules for digital advisers

The Monetary Authority of Singapore is proposing new rules to make it easier for roboadvisory firms to offer their services here.

For example, it is proposing that digital advisers that operate as fund managers under the Securities and Futures Act be allowed to offer their services to retail investors, even if they do not meet the current track record requirement, provided they meet certain safeguards.

While France striker Olivier Giroud is happy at Arsenal, he has made it clear to manager Arsene Wenger that he "won't settle for such limited playing time" next season.

Our report on Tuesday, "584 faulty HIV screening kits recalled by importer", stated that affected patients will not need to pay to retake the HIV tests. The Health Sciences Authority has clarified that the tests are provided at some healthcare facilities for a fee.
