S'pore seeks Asean air code

Singapore hopes Asean countries will be able to agree on a code to manage unexpected encounters in the air by October, as such a move will help manage security threats arising from territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

This was raised by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen yesterday, a day after the Asean defence ministers' meeting.

Ahok's wife submits affidavit

The divorce trial of jailed former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, has entered its second week.

Yesterday, his wife, Madam Veronica Tan, submitted an affidavit declaring that she does not wish to appoint a lawyer nor attend any of the hearings.

Traffic fatalities fell to a record low last year, but the number of elderly jaywalkers involved in accidents has increased by 19 from 2016 figures. The Traffic Police said 122 people died in road accidents last year, of which 13 people aged 60 and over died while jaywalking.

Car complaints top Case list

Car-related grouses made up 15 per cent of the 15,744 complaints to the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) last year, topping the list for six years running. Complaints about cars with defects have also risen for three years in a row.

City Towers sold for $401.9m

City Towers, a freehold development in Bukit Timah Road, has been sold for $401.9 million. Each owner stands to receive between $2.78 million and $11.5 million from the sale.

New champs for B Div tennis

Yesterday's Schools National B Division tennis finals saw both the boys' and girls' title holders dethroned.

Led by Timothy Lim, Raffles Institution battled hard to outlast two-time defending champions Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) 3-2, while the highly fancied Methodist Girls' School ran out 4-1 winners over Raffles Girls' School.

James Foley, who directed the last two films in the Fifty Shades trilogy, said women told him what they wanted to see, especially in the sex scenes.

"Ever since people found out I was going to be doing it, I heard from every woman. Women driving taxis and Uber told me," he says.
