Second issue of digital magazine The Life features a cruise on a luxury ship and a Swiss art collector in his castle

The second issue of The Life, the new digital magazine from The Straits Times, is out now.

For the cover story, Life! travel writer Lee Siew Hua went on a leisurely three-day cruise aboard a luxury schooner around the Komodo Islands.

During the day, she scuba dived, wakeboarded and went island trekking.

Adventures aside, she spent the rest of the time lounging aboard the 34m-long teak boat, built in the centuries-old Bugis tradition, taking in the scenery as it sailed past green conical islands and to points around the archipelago - Sumba, Flores, Banda and Raja Ampat. Meals were prepared onboard by a Belgian chef, and every evening, the boat's crew set up a sundown bar on a different uninhabited island.

Also in the August issue, three of Singapore's lushest private gardens are uncovered. Cultivated for decades by their green-thumbed owners, the gardens boast all kinds of greenery, fruit and wildlife. The owners share how they created their labours of love, all of which are still works in progress.

Another gem explored in this issue - prominent Chinese art collector Uli Sigg's castle of art on his island in Switzerland.

The Swiss businessman and former ambassador to China owns more than 2,000 works, so the works on display in his three-storey castle are constantly changing. The castle holds the works of some of China's most prominent artists - Zeng Fanzhi, Ai Weiwei and Yu Youhan.
