More than 3,000 residents of West Coast constituency danced the night away at West Coast Swing, the first street party in the constituency, last night.

Parts of Clementi West Street 2 were closed to traffic to allow dancing in the street to music by DJ Leonard T and MC Boo, led by about 300 dancers.

The party, which was attended by Minister for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran, also featured performances by bands Stereofly and The Common People, as well as a laser light show and a fireworks display.

"We hope to recreate the Swing Singapore atmosphere," said the event's organising chairman, Ms Kim Wei Ling, referring to the popular street party held between 1988 and 1992 in Orchard Road.

"We hope that with this event, we can further engage the residents, especially the youth, so that they can be more involved and exposed to community events," she said.
