SINGAPORE - A one-stop web portal for Muslims to access Islamic knowledge and advice from accredited religious teachers was launched on Sunday (May 29).

The first of its kind website, called LearnIslam.sg, is targeted at young adults. It was unveiled by Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim at the Al Iman mosque in Bukit Panjang.

Said Dr Yaacob: "The positive narrative is important for our young people - that Muis (Islamic Religious Council of Singapore) is here to assist them if they have any questions, any queries.

"We are more than happy to avail ourselves to make sure that we can help them to understand Islam even better. Along the way, they understand what are the values that we hold dear in Singapore," he added.

Through the website, users can sign up for Islamic education programmes from mosques and other religious knowledge providers.

The LearnIslam.sg website is part of Muis' continuing efforts to cater to different demographics of the Muslim community using a variety of platforms.

In 2014, for example, a home-schooling programme, Kids aLive Home Edition, was launched to cater to parents who want to teach their children about Islam at home.

Ahead of the Ramadan fasting month in June, the LearnIslam.sg website will also have frequently-asked-questions, recipes for pre-dawn and breaking-of-fast meals, along with prayer schedules.

Users need to register with their e-mail addresses to access the website's content.
