From 15 July, Visa cards will no longer be accepted at all Trans Cab taxis in Singapore, following the company's unwillingness to remove the 10 per cent surcharge on fares paid with Visa payment cards.

Visa has made this decision to uphold its "no surcharge protection policy", which protects cardholders from paying additional fees for Visa usage.

Ms Ooi Huey Tyng, Visa country manager for Singapore and Brunei, said: "Visa's no surcharging protection was created specifically to shield consumers. We remain open to working with these taxi companies and welcome the opportunity to talk with them further to review their surcharging practices."

In March, Visa also withdrew the option of visa payment from ComfortDelGro's cabs because of the taxi company's refusal to waive the surcharge.
