US congressmen meet Singapore foreign minister

SINGAPORE - A visiting United States congressional delegation met Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam on Monday morning.

They discussed the progress of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which aims to expand the flow of goods, services and capital among 12 nations, including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the US and Singapore. Both sides agreed that it is important for the partnership to conclude successfully.

They also affirmed America's commitment to deepen engagement with the Asia-Pacific region, and the excellent bilateral relations between both countries.

The delegation - led by the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means Paul Ryan - will also call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang on Monday.

They will be in Singapore from Feb 15 to 17.
