Two youths arrested for robbery with hurt in North Bridge Road

Two teenagers were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assaulting and robbing a 78-year-old wheelchair-bound man along North Bridge Road the previous evening.

The police said in a statement that a caller reported on Wednesday morning that the elderly man had been robbed by two unknown men at about 7pm on Tuesday. The duo had assaulted the victim and robbed him of cash amounting to $500.

Through extensive ground enquiries and closed-circuit TV footage obtained, officers managed to establish the identities of the suspects. The suspects, aged 15 and 16, were nabbed along Jalan Sultan.

Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan commended the officers' investigative acumen and perserverance which led to the apprehension of the suspects. He added that the police will not hesitate to press for a deterrence sentence against the culprits especially in confrontational crimes committed against the elderly.
