A tree fell on a taxi and a car at Commonwealth Crescent on Thursday night.

Two men were injured. A 60-year-old suffered from giddiness, and another man in his 50s was treated for chest pain, said a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman.

The driver of the car, known only as Mr Yam, escaped unscathed.

The police received a call for assistance at Block 96, Commonwealth Crescent, at 9.50pm.

The fallen tree blocked three lanes of the road, and police officers were present to divert traffic. At least 14 workers were clearing and removing the tree at about 10.35pm. Traffic resumed on one of the lanes by 10.45pm.

Said resident Judy Yong, a seamstress: "I normally walk the road where the tree fell. What if it fell on me?"
