Second Minister for Defence Ong Ye Kung visited Jakarta, Indonesia, from Tuesday to yesterday.

He attended the opening ceremony of the 7th Indo Defence 2016 Expo and Forum officiated by Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, as well as the event's official luncheon hosted by Indonesian Defence Minister General (Rtd) Ryamizard Ryacudu, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement.

As part of the visit, Mr Ong called on Gen Ryamizard.

During their meeting, Mr Ong and Gen Ryamizard reaffirmed the close and longstanding bilateral defence relationship and discussed transnational security issues.

Mr Ong also called on Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, General (Rtd) Luhut Pandjaitan.

Both defence establishments have regular interactions through exercises, visits, professional exchanges, and cross-attendance of courses, Mindef said.

These interactions enhance mutual understanding and camaraderie between the two defence establishments.

Singapore and Indonesia also interact at multilateral fora such as the Shangri-La Dialogue, the Asean Defence Minister's Meeting and the ADMM-Plus.
