SINGAPORE - Part of a large tree in a carpark at a Marsiling Housing Board block fell and struck eight vehicles early on Saturday (Sept 16) morning.

The incident happened around 5.30am at Block 205, Marsiling Drive, Shin Min Daily News reported.

Photos of the scene show at least two vehicles that are badly damaged.

A silver van is shown with its windscreen shattered and caved in, while another vehicle has its rear windscreen smashed in.

No one was hurt in the incident, a spokesman for the Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Council told The Straits Times on Monday.

The spokesman said the town council deployed its horticulture team immediately when it was alerted to the incident at 5.55am on Saturday morning.

"Our officers were also on site to assist the car owners," she said.

The tree is more than 30 years old, and was found healthy during its last inspection this month, said the town council spokesman.

It was taken away by two lorry cranes.

"Eight vehicles reported damage, but we are relieved that no one is hurt and are staying in touch with the car owners to render as much help as we can," said the spokesman.
