SINGAPORE - Heavy rain lashed the island on Friday (June 23) morning, causing traffic delays.

A tree branch fell on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), closing one lane of the highway and causing jams.

Traffic was slow on the side of the road towards Changi before the Lornie Road exit.

"Obstacle on PIE (towards Changi Airport) before Lornie Rd. Avoid lane 1," the Land Transport Authority alerted in a tweet at 10.19am.

A Straits Times reader captured the strong wind and driving rain at Telok Blangah Crescent in a video.

The National Environment Agency warned of downpours from 10am to 11am on Friday.
