SINGAPORE - For the second morning in a row, a track fault near Jurong East MRT station caused a delay on the East-West Line on Wednesday (Dec 30).
The problem was rectified nearly two hours later.
SMRT, which operates the line, had first said in a tweet at 7.49am on Wednesday that commuters should expect an additional 10 minutes of travelling time from Joo Koon to Clementi stations, in the direction of Pasir Ris.
It later revised the additional travelling time to 20 minutes, then 30 minutes.
The track fault was rectified at around 9.32am, SMRT said. Trains, however, had to move slower due to the earlier congestion.
Normal service resumed at 10.05am, with SMRT apologising to commuters for the inconvenience.
As netizens were quick to point out, a track fault had also occurred near Jurong East station on Tuesday morning.
Commenting on a Facebook post put up by The Straits Times, several commuters complained that the delay was longer than what SMRT had stated.
User Jimmy Seah said he was still stuck between Jurong East and Chinese Garden stations after 25 minutes, while Tiara Nadrina claimed she had been waiting at Jurong East station for at least 45 minutes.
